When I was younger, I loved to travel for the adventure and escape that it offered. Journeys over land and sea are an opportunity to discover new towns & cities, horizons, personalities & colours. To set foot in distant places ourselves is to make them more than names in an atlas and in others’ photographs. There will always be that excitement from experiencing things that are so different to where we come from.
As I grew older, I came to realise that the part of the journey that I would always look forward to was coming home. Home is a place where we can come after being infused by the outside world; where we gather.
This is a print series dedicated to those who love to explore & immerse themselves in other cultures; the traveler in each of us who finds that new discoveries & curious encounters are a reminder that we can wander the world but, at the end of the day, there’s no place like home. Home is where the heart rests. A place where we can bring our experiences & share them with the community of loved ones who make the four walls in which we live in, home.
These maps were from a 1920s Atlas, reproduced on a premium vellum, cotton-like paper. The text has been delicately screen printed in a Sashimi (Pantone 1785U) coloured ink.
