Session + Collection
The session is a flat fee for the time of photography only.
Because of the nature of film, I’ve made the session fee as risk free for you as possible, essentially the session fee just covers the price of film & developing (yes, it’s that expensive!)
The session fee includes a slideshow of the images and then you can decide whether to purchase the set of images. If you don’t fancy what you see on the slideshow, then don’t worry about purchasing the collection.

Why Film?
My love affair with film started in 2004 and has never stopped. There were times it took a backseat as the world of digital photography exploded into existence, but it never really left my side. In 2009, I published a book called Perfect Imperfection - a series of photographs that weren’t technically perfect but captured the beauty of moment. Most of my favourites images in that book was photographed on film.
Over the last 8 years, my love for film photography has exponentially grown, and most of my personal work is on film which you can find on my blog called Otherwise Ordinary Tuesdays.
To me, film is wonderful and magical - the depth and tones, the grain and texture, the way it relates to light - it’s something that digital cannot seem to replicate - trust me I’ve tried! Photographing in film excites me and makes me nervous - a good kind of nervous, the kind of nervous when you go on a first date, or you hold your baby for the first time.
As much as there is so much beauty in photographing in film, there are risk involved. The film could be exposed to light and everything could be ruined. Most film cameras are over 20 years old, so the mechanics might fail mid session - the shutter might fail and we won’t know till we get back the film that something has gone wrong. The list goes on.
Unlike a digital camera, there’s no way to check whether things are working on the spot.
To minimise these risks, I bring several film cameras for each session. I don’t develop the film myself - I leave that to the professionals. And with nearly 20 years of experience photographing couples and families, I believe I have the technical ability to minimise the risk, and yet create beautiful, magical images.Booking in a Film Photography Session
Once you are ready to book in a session, let me know and we can schedule in a date & time that works best for both our schedules. With film photography, there are more limitations with light, so we need to be more conscious of the weather and time of day.
The film session will last up to 3 hours.
It might take shorter, but with film, the moments cannot be rushed.
Film is a much slower process, hence the slightly longer session time compared to what I offer on digital photography sessions.
There will be times I will just be hanging out with you - don’t worry it’s all part of the process.
Film is very much about waiting for the right moments.
”Film photography is not about perfection; it's about capturing the essence of a moment, imperfections and all.”
The session fee only covers time for photography, and a 24 hour slideshow preview.
You can read up on tips on how to prepare for the photography session here.Slideshow Preview (available for 24 hours)
2-3 weeks after the photography session, you will receive a link to the custom slideshow.
The custom slideshow is a preview of your session. I’d encourage you to gather your family together to view the slideshow - the first viewing is always the most magical.
Your slideshow will be available for 24 hours from the first time you open it and will be available to be viewed as many times as you wish until the expiry period.
The custom slideshow will give you an insight to whether you would like to purchase the film collection or not.Choose your Collection
Unlike my digital collections, there is only one collection available for the film session.
If you like what you see on the slideshow, follow the prompts for the Display Collection
Display Collection ($700) - This collection will give you access to download all the images (70+) and also includes a sizeable print credit of $100, which can be used in the online store. You will also be able to download the custom slideshow.Access your Personalised Viewing Gallery and Online Store
Once you have paid for your collection you will receive full access to your viewing gallery and online store. You will be able to download your images in full resolution. You will have access to the online store, which offers artisanal products such as handmade prints and bespoke frames.
FAQ
One of us have fallen sick, can we reschedule?
Yes of course!
I have children myself so I know how easy is it for kids to bring home all kinds of germs and viruses. I’d ask that you let me know at least 24 hours ahead of time so I can make appropriate changes to my schedule as well. Why is your film session cheaper than your digital session?
Film is a love of mine, so essentially this is a passion project rather than way to earn income. The session fee pays for the rolls of film, development & scanning, so I pretty much don’t earn anything from that.
I want to be able photograph more families on film, so have tried to make it as accessible as possible for those who love the medium. And as risk free as possible for those who may love film but hesitant to do a full session in film because of the risk.I would like to include my extended family in the session, is that possible?
Yes, of course!
You can add them in for an extra $30 per extended family member.
My aim is to capture the authentic moments in a parent-child relationship, so we generally focus on that for the majority of the session. Children can get overwhelmed or distracted when there are too many people around, so I’d ask that extended family to only join towards the end of the session.
I would like to buy a gift voucher. Is this possible?
Of course!
I can provide you an e-voucher and will contact the recipient to arrange a date and time to schedule a session. I generally recommend purchasing the Family Portraits + Basic / Display Collection as a gift. If you are on a budget, you can just purchase the Family Portraits session, but remember that they will only receive the custom slideshow for 24 hours, but they can always purchase a collection in order to receive something tangible. The print credit within the online store - what is on offer?
The lab attached to the online store is a professional print lab based in Australia. They offer artisanal, premium print products such as photos, frames, cards, etc. You can have a look at a sample gallery & what the online store offers here.
For clients outside of Australia, if you prefer not to have the print credit, you can trade it in for half the value. Eg $100 Print Credit = $50 off collection priceThe weather forecast is not looking good. Should we reschedule?
Yes, because of the nature of film, we have limitations. Film loves light and depends on it so if the weather is not looking great, we should definitely postpone.
