Photographing another wedding photographer’s big day is always a huge honour. Over the years, I’ve had this incredible honour a couple of times - shooting Melbourne wedding photographer Kim Cartmell’s wedding here, Sayher Heffernan’s wedding here & Bianca Cash’s wedding here.

This wedding was rather special because the bride & groom are both Singaporean wedding photographers - and fantastic photographers at that (check out their work here & here). They are each particularly gifted at capturing portraits with heart & emotion. Samuel Goh was also most recently named on Rangefinder’s list of Top 30 Photographers to watch.

I first met Sam & Ting at my workshop with the Robertsons in 2014 here. I remember chatting to Sam, and asking him how he & Ting met. He told me their story and will always remember what he said - that from the day he met Ting, he knew he was going to marry her.

It’s a funny thing when you have to photograph someone in the same field as you - there are moments of doubt, comparison & uncertainty. But I told myself, as I always do, to calm down and shoot it the only way I know how — through the eyes of a friend who is right there to celebrate each joy & happiness. In capturing the fleeting moments, I try to tuck away a smile - some interaction - a look - the swell of hope & love - for eternal keeping.

Nestled amongst the jarrah trees of Dwelling up forest an hour out of Perth, Sam & Ting’s wedding had the feel of a weekend summer camp — in the nicest way possible; if you’re like me, and don’t have the fondest memories of camps, the slightly gawky adolescent ritual of it. But this — this was a long-awaited getaway with your dearest friends & family, to revel in togetherness. Housed in a large timber hall, with bunk beds and all, everyone lent heart & hands to the tasks that would usually be behind the scenes, made do with whatever there was & made it beautiful. There was time and space for many an intimate conversation over laying tables and cooking, culminating in the couple’s happy vows, and probably the best dancing that the floors of that hall had ever seen.

I hope you enjoy this wedding - it was definitely one that was made with love, by friends & family.
