I’ve been photographing weddings in the Yarra Valley for a long time now.
My first wedding in the Yarra Valley was in 2010 at Stones of the Yarra Valley. I loved it so much that a few years later, I got married there myself. Since then I’ve photographed weddings all over the valley — at Stones of the Yarra Valley, Zonzo Estate, Yering Station, The Farm Yarra Valley, Coombe Yarra Valley and plenty of other places along the way.

Weddings in the Yarra Valley
I think what I like most about Yarra Valley weddings is that most of them tend to happen all in the one place.
There’s no need to rush around from one side of Melbourne to another. The ceremony and reception flow seamlessly without the need for much travel, which gives the whole wedding a bit more room to breathe.
The day can feel more like a weekend away than just an event. Some guests make a weekend of it, and the celebrations can carry on into the next day.
That’s exactly what my wife and I wanted for our own wedding — for our loved ones to have a relaxed overall experience, rather than an event that only lasted a couple of hours.
Stones of the Yarra Valley
Stones probably has a slightly different place in my heart because I’ve experienced it both as a photographer and as someone getting married there.
So I know the property pretty well! There are lots of beautiful places to photograph, but I don’t think you need to disappear for ages to make the most of them. A short wander around the property is usually enough, and then you can get back to everyone.

Zonzo Estate
I’ve photographed quite a few weddings at Zonzo Estate over the years, and I’ve had the privilege of photographing the owner’s wedding too.
It’s a very easy place for a wedding because everything happens in the one spot, and once dinner starts there’s usually a lovely energy to the room. Good food, wine, long tables and everyone together.

Yering Station
Yering Station is another venue I’ve photographed over the years and it has plenty of variety without needing to travel anywhere else for photographs.
That’s something I’ve come to appreciate more and more.
A beautiful location is great, but I’m always conscious that every extra half an hour spent driving somewhere for photographs is half an hour you’re not spending at your wedding.

The Farm Yarra Valley
The Farm has a more relaxed feel to it, which suits the way I like to photograph weddings.
There’s enough space to wander off for a few photographs without feeling like we need to make a whole production out of it, and then we can head back to the party.

Coombe Yarra Valley
Coombe is another one of those Yarra Valley venues where everything can happen in the one place, which always makes the day feel a little easier.
There’s plenty of space to wander off for some photographs without disappearing for too long, and once the formalities are over, everyone can settle in and enjoy the rest of the day.
For me, that’s always a good balance — a beautiful place to photograph, without needing the wedding to revolve around the photography.
