There is something wonderfully vulnerable about photographing another photographer.

Earlier this year, I offered a handful of 35mm family sessions exclusively for fellow photographers. It was an opportunity to slow down, to put aside the pursuit of perfection, and simply document family life on film. It was also an excuse to meet the people behind the cameras, in the places that matter most to them.

This was one of those sessions.

I'd known of Amy for a long time, but we'd never actually met. So I was grateful for the chance to spend an afternoon with her family in the place where they feel most themselves.

Their home in Forest Hill was drenched in beautiful summer light. The kids bounced endlessly on the backyard trampoline. Ice cream melted a little too quickly on the kitchen island before we wandered through the park behind their house with no real destination in mind. It wasn't a session built around a location or an elaborate plan. Just an ordinary afternoon. The kind that quietly becomes extraordinary with time.

Photographed on Portra 400 & Portra 800.
