Karuizawa Pre Wedding on 35mm Film - Colin & Kylie
Karuizawa is a small mountain town just an hour from Tokyo — and interestingly, it doesn’t feel very Japanese at all.
Karuizawa has long been a summer escape for locals, and you can feel that gentler rhythm the moment you arrive. There's a softness to it. Wide, tree-lined paths. European-style cottages. A quiet stillness that feels more alpine retreat than bustling Tokyo. It's exactly why Colin & Kylie chose it for their wedding — to be in Japan, surrounded by locals rather than tourists.
Because of that, it took a couple of hours of driving to find corners that hinted we were still in Japan — a vegetable farm tucked between mountains, an old wooden heritage home with weathered beams and a tiled roof, a quiet street lined with simple storefronts. I'm glad I got to wander and find them.
