Melbourne Engagement Photographer
Natural & Heartfelt engagement photography in Melbourne
for couples who want the most honest expression of themselves captured in a relaxed way
Your relationship is a story; made up of an infinite number of moments, merged together by the rhythms & repetitions of life, bonded by love. Moments of quiet, moments of softening, moments of strength, moments of whimsy. My belief is that your photographs should reflect who you are as a couple - whether it be loving big adventures, or lazing in on a Sunday morning, or sitting quietly next to each other - the silence feeling as comfortable as any conversation. In many ways, the photographs of you both together should be simple, honest and true.
Hi, I’m Jon
Hi, my name is Jonathan, but you can call me Jon.
Over the last 17 years, the privilege of being a photographer has affirmed to me, again and again, that our deepest happiness and meaning is found in the people we love and the stories we tell.
In photographing the human connection through weddings, engagements and families, I’ve been blessed to witness something of how we each begin, and how we become. How we hope, even when we have doubted.
The hard, and joyful, journey to love.
Again and again.
I was once asked during an interview to describe my photography style. Words like “journalistic, candid, natural, minimalistic” all came to mind. But I finally blurted out - “I hope when you look back at the photographs from your wedding day, it felt like a dear friend had captured those moments.”
A friend’s point of view - warm, honest and heartfelt.
That’s everything I aim for your photographs to look and feel like.

The Right
Kind of Fit
Choosing an engagement photographer is partly about the photographs, but also about having someone around who understands how you want the day to feel. When the fit feels right, it’s easier to relax and be yourselves.
Here are a few of the things my couples tend to value.
For couples who want photographs that feel natural rather than staged
“Jon was wonderful to work with, he made our session so relaxing and natural and the photos came out great! He was fast to reply to any queries and our photos were returned so quickly. We highly recommend every couple to use Jon as their photographer, your love and relationships will be captured so organically for you to look back on.”
- Emily & Khanh
For couples who want to enjoy the session without being directed the whole time
“We really enjoyed our pre-wedding shoot with Jon! He was really warm and friendly and I think that made the photoshoot so much more comfortable, kind of felt like we were just hanging out and having fun on a weekend. Jon has an eye for capturing beautiful moments and we're really grateful that we got to work with him!”
- Mark & Janice
The couple who wanted candid, natural photos without feeling awkward in front of the camera
“Jon has an eye for catching people in the most natural way. As people who aren’t particularly comfortable behind the camera, he made us feel at ease. There were never any moments where we felt forced, or even like we were really posing. We were just having fun, and that really shines through our wedding photos.”
- Brad & Ruth
Kind Words

Yes — I’ll guide you with simple prompts rather than putting you into lots of poses. Around 90% of my couples either don’t like having their photo taken or simply don’t have many photos together, so you definitely won’t be alone — in fact, you’ll be very much my kind of couple. I’ll give you enough direction to help you feel comfortable, while keeping an eye out for all the little in-between moments.
-
Yes. I’m happy to suggest locations, although couples are also encouraged to think about places that mean something personally to them.
-
If the weather is looking too wet for the session, we’ll postpone and find another suitable date rather than trying to force the session in poor conditions.

Yes, I photograph weddings across Melbourne and regional Victoria. This includes the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Daylesford, Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula, Ballarat, the Dandenong Ranges and Macedon Ranges. I’m always happy to travel further for the right wedding, with a small travel fee for locations outside Melbourne metro. I also photograph weddings and other sessions in Singapore once or twice a year — it gives me a chance to visit family, so I’m always happy to make the trip.
-
For locations further out across Victoria, there may be a small travel fee depending on the location to cover the additional petrol and travel time.
Let’s Talk About
Your Engagement Session
If you’re planning an engagement session in Melbourne, elsewhere in Victoria or Singapore, I’d love to hear what you have in mind. Tell me a little about the two of you, where you’re getting married and what you want the day to feel like.
From there, I can send through availability and the engagement session information, and we can see if it feels like a good fit.
